Abstract

664,958. Stoppers &c. KIRBY, J. C. May 22, 1950. [May 23, 1949] No. 13752/49. Class. 125(iii). [Also in Group XXIX] A closure device comprises a rotatable cap 18 secured over the neck 12 of a container to form a joint therewith and having an aperture 28, and a movable camoperated valve member 16 which opens and closes the aperture as the cap is rotated to operate the cam. The cap 18 has a cylindrical sleeve 19 and a disc portion 20 the periphery of which has tabs 22 bent over a lip 13 on the neck 12 to secure the cap, a sealing ring 21 being interposed between the disc 20 and the lip 13. The sleeve 19 has cam slots 23, the upper part 24 of which forms part of a helix around the sleeves and the valve member 16 has guide pins 17 engaging the slots 23 and travelling in guideways 15 in the neck of the container and further guide pins 29 in sliding contact with the sleeve 19 to prevent the valve canting over in operation. As the cap is rotated cam action between the slots 24 and the guide pins 17 raises or lowers the valve member 16 to close or open the aperture 28.
