Abstract
721,029. Vacuum closures. RITTER, H. July 15, 1953, No. 19599/53. Class 125 (3). A closure for an inspissation vessel 1 comprises a cover 2 with an outer rim 3 fitting over the rim 4 of the vessel on which rim 4 is a packing ring 5, and having an upstanding neck 7 surrounding an aperture 8, and an elastic cap 10 which vessel is placed over the and is caused by the vacuum in the vessel to embrace the neck to form a seal, the inward bulging of the end of the cap indicating the vacuum. A lip 9 on the neck 7 limits the bulging of the cap. In a modification, an apertured metal cap 11 is placed over the hood 10 which has a projection 13 which projection protrudes through the cap aperture to indicate loss of vacuum. The cap aperture may have a hinged flap 15 over it and the cap 11 carries labelling 'panels. The cover 2 may be held on the vessel during boiling by a spring clip.
