Abstract

915,119. Applying closures. BENDERWERKE G.m.b.H. June 11,1959 [Aug. 6,1958], No. 20076/59. Class 125(2). Apparatus for delivering closure seals to bottles in a bottle sealing machine and for temporarily securing the closures to the bottles comprises a guide 1 with cover 6 and a channel 10 with cover 11 in which the closure is held by a weighted arm 28 pivoted at 24 in readiness to be applied to a bottle. The channel is mounted to slide vertically against the action of compression springs 14 and has a polished slide plate at its rear against which a bottle engages to lift the channel. The bottle then strikes the cap whereupon the pivoted arm 28 moves to release the cap which is then pressed on to the bottle by the horizontal plate 21 under the action of the compression springs. The bottle with cap then passes between two rollers 39, 40 which are drawn together by a tension spring 35 and these rollers bend two notches of the cap underneath the lip of the bottle to secure it thereto temporarily. For caps having a tab associated with a tear off strip deflecting surfaces are provided to bend the tab downwards out of the path of the rollers.
