Abstract

701,524. Capping bottles. KORK - N - SEAL, Ltd. Feb. 12, 1952 [Feb. 12, 19511, No. 3350/51. Class 125 (2) Bottle caps Y, of the kind having a divided skirt contracted about the bottle neck by the depression of a lever engaging a wire passing through curled portions of the skirt sections, are held in a shoot 11 by abutments 20, 21 carried on horizontal levers 22, 23 pivoted at 24, 25 to the machine frame 10 and moved apart by an approaching bottle X engaging further abutments 26, 27 on the levers, the released cap being drawn out of shoot 11 by the bottle neck as it advances. The abutment 20 engages the cap lever which projects through a slot in the top plate 17 of the shoot. t. Abutment 21 engages the lowest point of the cap skirt. Levers 22, 23 are joined by a tension spring 28 and their approach is limited by adjustable stops 29. The bottle with its cap passes under a roller 33 pressed downwardly by a spring 35 on the shoot 11. An extension 17b of the plate 17 keeps the cap in place as the bottle moves to the cap-securing device described in Specification 701,525 which includes a pressure wheel 12 and a device for turning down the cap lever.
