998,057. Packaging in tubes. HESSER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. Dec. 11, 1963, [Feb. 18, 1963], No. 48880/63. Heading B8C. An oscillatory mechanism operating a device 4, 5 (Fig. 1), for drawing a printed web or tube C in steps, is caused to make a lengthened or shortened stroke, to correct error in registration of the printing, only when this error reaches a predetermined amount. In the machine illustrated, a tube formed from two webs C, D longitudinally welded at 2, 3 is drawn downwardly about a filling nozzle, either by transversely-welding jaws 4, 5 or by an independent set of gripping jaws (Fig. 4, not shown). The stroke of a reciprocating member 12 effecting the drawing motion is derived from a crank 18 through a linkage which provides two different amplitudes of stroke, according as a solenoid 41 is operated or released under the control of a photo-cell 25 which is operated when the error in registration of the printing on the webs exceeds a predetermined value. An adjustment 22, 23 permits the normal stroke to be varied. The jaws 4, 5 are moved transversely, to engage and release the tube, by members 9, 10 acting through rollers on a linkage 6 ... 9.
