Class 100(i) [Also in Group XVII] Relates to means for feeding intermittently a strip 115 from a reel (not shown) to a bottle capping head 68. A carriage 123 is mounted in a guide 120 secured to a platform 7 and is reciprocated by a toggle linkage 133, 134 pivoted at 136 to the guide 120 and actuated by the raising and lowering of a yoke 139 moved by any suitable means such as a hydraulic piston 142. The strip 115 passes over a guide roller 118 and runs through an aperture 130 in a bracket 129 secured to the carriage 123. An inclined plate 126 is pivoted at 127 to lugs 128 on the bracket and has pins 131 working in cut out parts 132 of lugs 128 and pivoted to the ends of levers 133. Downward movement of the toggle first tilts the plate 126 toward the vertical, the strip being clamped between the plate and a guide 122, and then advances the carriage 123 with the clamped strip. When the toggle is raised, the strip is freed and the carriage retracted, reverse motion of the strip being prevented by a plate 147. The carriage carries a bar 124 having nuts 125 adjustment of which alters the throw of the toggle and, hence, the length of the feed.
