971,808. Container cleaning and filling mechanisms. BURNETT & ROLFE Ltd. March 1, 1963 [Feb. 2, 1962], No. 8352/63. Divided out of 971,807. Heading B8T. A container cleaning and filling mechanism comprises a conveyer 1 for the containers, a cleaning and filling head 6, and a hoist, the head and hoist being arranged so that the head and a container raised by the hoist can move relatively to one another in all horizontal directions, and the head having a guide for engaging a container as it is raised to move the head and container into alignment. The hoist consists of a yoke 13, arms 14 and 15 pivoted thereto at 34 and 35 respectively, and a carriage 16 constrained for vertical movement only, and carrying rollers 17 and 18 just below the surface of the conveyer. The head 6 has a tubular extension 19 with a flange plate 20 attached by flanges to the base of a pneumatic cylinder 10, the ram of which is pivotally connected at 33 to the yoke 13 by a bracket 12. The head and pneumatic cylinder are slidable longitudinally of the conveyer on a tongue 23 attached to the fixed frame 24 of the mechanism, and are urged to a central position by springs 26, 27. A container to be filled is brought to the mechanism by an input conveyer 2 from which it is deflected by a bellcrank lever arm 3 on to the conveyer 1, which carries it to a position above the carriage 16 where it operates a trip lever 7 controlling a micro-switch 8 to operate the pneumatic ram and raise the hoist. The rollers 17, 18 are thus raised through the surface of the conveyer 1 to lift the container therefrom and allow it to move transversely thereof, so that its neck comes into contact with the bell-mouth 32 of the head. Movement of the head along the tongue 23 is made possible by the flexibility of arms 14 and 15, and slackness in pivotal joints 33, 34 and 35 and consequently the head and container move relatively to bring the container neck into alignment with the head, in which position steam and beer may be passed into the container successively via tubes 37 and 40 respectively.
