Abstract
417,432. Applying caps to bottles &c. TENNANT, W. J., 111, Hatton Garden, London.-(Crown Cork & Seal Co., Inc.; Highlandtown, Baltimore, U.S.A.) March 21, 1934, No. 8916. [Class 125 (ii).] Apparatus for capping bottles, jars, and like vessels comprises a capping machine driven from a source of power through a clutch, reciprocatory feed mechanism for advancing bottles into position for capping, and a device movable with the feed mechanism for engaging the clutch when bottles attain the capping position in advance strokes, the clutch being disengaged during reverse strokes. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a capping machine 10 is provided with a continuously running motor 11 and clutch mechanism 12. When the clutch is thrown in, reciprocating capper elements 14 place caps on the bottles beneath them. The lever mechanism for operating the clutch consists of a rod 15, pivoted lever 16, rod 17, and bell-crank lever 18 with an arm 23 which projects into the path of the bottle feeding mechanism and adjacent a shelf on the capping machine. The bottles are moved along a table 26 with a guide 27 by fingers 30 attached to a reciprocating rod 28. The bottles are moved from the table 26 to a shelf 34 on the capping machine and to another table 33. The rod 28 carries a lug 35 with adjustable bolt 36 which engages the arm 23 of the bell-crank lever 18 and thereby operates the clutch of the capping machine.
