Abstract

<PICT:0463289/III/1> Apparatus for sealing bottles, jars, and like containers comprises means for advancing a bottle &c. to capping and sealing position, means for feeding a continuous length of cap-forming sheet or strip over the mouth of the container, and means, actuated by the movement of the bottle into capping and sealing position, for rendering said sheet or strip-feeding means operative. As shown the bottles are fed successively by a reciprocating bar 17, Fig. 1, carrying pivoted bottle-engaging arms 18 to a position between a pair of forked members 46 which are pivoted to the frame member 11 and actuated by cam projections 50 on discs 36 at the sides of the frame to embrace the neck of the bottle and deposit adhesive thereon, the adhesive being supplied from a reservoir 45 through pipes 47, leading to absorbent pads in the members 46; the discs 36 are secured to a shaft 37 driven in any suitable manner. The bottle then moves towards the capping and sealing position.
