Abstract

442,248. Labelling-machines. FLOWER, J. W., Eclipse Works, Wimborne, Dorset. Nov. 3,1934, No. 31637. [Class 73] In a labelling-machine in which the label is wiped on to a bottle or other container by a pair of wipers, the wipers derive their motion from two cams whereby their path follows the contour of the bottle &c. The machine is of the kind in which the bottle &c. is placed on a rest and the label detached from the bottom of a pile by a pair of pickers and applied to the bottle &c., the middle of the label being held by a finger while the sides are wiped. The machine comprises a frame 3 having a main cam-shaft 12 from which the parts are driven. The wipers 55 are carried by arms 75 mounted on a stirrup member 70 which is reciprocated vertically by means of a lever 80. The arms 75 have extensions 76 engaging a cam 78 mounted on a shaft 67, an extension of which carries a pinion 66 engaged by a rack.operated by a lever actuated from the cam-shaft. The pickers 39 and gumming roller 30 are also operated by connections from the cam-shaft which is driven through speed-reducing gearing 6 and a manually controlled clutch 16 from a motor 5.
