Abstract
570,017. Securing lids on jars &c. SUTCLIFFE, J. W., and SUTCLIFFE, T. C. Sept. 23, 1943, No. 15588. [Class 125 (ii)] Bottles, jars, cans, &c. containing e.g. foodstuffs are fed continuously or intermittently by a conveyer 2 to a point at which they meet caps 6 fed from a hopper down a shoot 7 to spring retaining fingers (not shown) whereafter further movement of the container causes it to engage the cap and carry this beneath a cam drum 3 so as to rotate the latter and cause it to apply axial pressure to the cap by a line rolling contact. The cam may be spring-returned. A stream of heated air or steam may be projected into the container and/or cap from a jet 16, and after sealing jets of cold air or water or chilled wheels or rollers may be applied to the cap.
