Abstract
425,757. Sealing paper bottles; bottle stoppers. RISTOW, C., 6, Flotowstrasse, Berlin. Aug. 12, 1933, No. 22571. [Classes 125 (ii) and 125 (iii)] In a machine for automatically sealing filled paper bottles the bottles are carried in two rows by an endless band through the machine and temporarily brought to rest at four different operating stations at three of which stamps and laterally moving pressure jaws grip and shape the heads of the bottles, press paper discs, (stamped out of a laterally fed paper strip and pre-shaped by a separate stamp) into the bottle necks, and finally flange over the edges of the bottles and fix the discs whereupon fluid paraffin wax is introduced into the space over the disc. As shown an endless chain band 31 carries two rows of holders 32 containing the filled bottles beneath four pairs of stamps 12, 12<1>, 13, 13<1>, 14, 14<1>, 15, 15<1>, being given an intermittent movement from an electric motor 4 via worm wheel 7, shafts 8, 21, 24, a crank arm 25 on 24, and a Maltese cross 28. At position I bottles are placed in the holders. At position II the stamps 12, 12<1>, reciprocated (as are the other stamps) from the shaft 8, enter and shape the heads of the bottles which are held (as they are also in positions III and IV) by pressure jaws 40 ... 43, Fig. 2, driven from shafts 8, 21. At position III paper strip-fed from a roll 56 is impressed by mechanism including a feed roller 62 with the shape of the discs, and passes beneath a reversal-preventing pawl 73 ; stamps 60, 60<1> then provisionally shape the discs, giving them a convex curvature, and finally the stamps 13, 13<1>, stamp out the discs and force them into the bottles. These stamps may be provided with a series of prongs which cooperate with grooves in the pressure jaws 40 &c., to punch holes in the bottle edge to facilitate removal of the disc, as suggested in Specification 390,703. As shown, the stamps 60<1>, 60, 13<1>, 13 are spaced at regular intervals. In order to save paper the strip is fed at each operation of the stamps only two-thirds of the distance between two adjacent stamps, so that from the length of strip extending from stamp 60<1> to stamp 13 ten discs are eventually stamped out and pressed into bottles. At position IV the stamps 14, 14<1>, force the discs down the bottle necks to the shoulder S and flange over the edges of the neck. At position V paraffin wax from a reservoir 84 is fed on to the discs via cocks 86 which are closed by springs 88 connected to arms 87 on the cocks and opened by the movement of sleeves 89 relative to the stamps 15, 15<1> when the sleeves descend and rest on the bottles. A hand wheel 37 is provided for adjusting the conveyer band before starting the machine.
