Abstract
1,217,529. Applying wrappers or labels. JOHANN WEISS MASCHINENFABRIK UND APPARATEBAU G.m.b.H. 11 July, 1968 [11 July, 1967], No. 33155/68. Heading B8F. An apparatus for applying a wrapping 11, e.g. of tin foil around and over the neck of, e.g. a bottle 9, comprises a first upper rotating cylinder 4 having radially reciprocating suction carriers 7 surrounding stationary inserts 15, which together transport the wrapping 11 from a guide 21 past an adhesive applicator (not shown) to a sticking-on position whereupon reciprocation of the carriers 7 occurs and air pressure is substituted for suction to blow the wrapping 11 around the bottle, which may be rotated at the same time. A brush or brushes 13 provide further pressure to secure the wrapping. In a modification a lower rotating cylinder 18 is also incorporated to apply labels 8 to the bottle by a similar operation. The labels 8 and wrapping 11 may have a fixed orientation on the bottles by feeding in the wrapping 11 at an oblique angle to the rotating axis of the cylinder 4, Fig. 2 (not shown). The wrappings 11 are cut from a continuous supply roll 1 by a cutting and feeding device 3 and they may be printed upon.
