Abstract

1,007,006. Labelling machines. JOHANN WEISS MASCHINENFABRIK UND APPARATEBAU G.m.b.H. March 14, 1963 [April 26, 1962], No. 10151/63. Heading B8F. In a labelling machine, particularly for conically shaped articles, a rotary labelling drum 1 has spring-loaded inserts 3 horizontally pivoted at 2 holding labels by suction and moved parallel to the generatrix of the outer surface of the article by means of a cam 7 fixed adjacent the periphery of the drum 1, the insert pressing the article against a pad of resilient material 9 pivotally and adjustably mounted in the machine frame at 22 and 29 respectively. A roller 11 attached to the insert 3 engages the cam 7, as shown in Fig. 1, for an upwardly tapered article, so that as the drum 1 is rotated the insert is tilted in the vicinity of the labelling position. The cam 7 is interchangeable to suit differently shaped articles. The articles are carried by a conveyer belt past the drum 1 and pad 9 where the label is applied and to a resilient belt 31, 32 driven by a roller 41 and supported by rollers 33, 44 which acts in conjunction with a further resilient pad 9 to secure the label. The machine also contains a label box and gum applying device, and suction conduits 13, 14 in the insert 3 can be used to apply an air blast to assist application of the label to the article. The label box may be inclined relative to the drum to compensate for any displacement of the label that may occur during the labelling process.
