Abstract

688,813. Labelling machines. JAGENBERGWERKE AKT.-GES. Aug. 27, 1951. [Sept. 9, 1950] No. 20124/51. Class 73. [Also in Group XXX] In a labelling machine, labels are extracted from magazines by a glueing cylinder and transferred to an endless, conveying device which applies them to a cylindrical article by rotating it against a guide. Cylindrical articles 1 are fed in a vertical position by a conveyer 3 to a spacing worm 5 and the label applying device. Surfaces 9, on a continuously rotating cylinder 8, are glued by a roller 10 and extract labels 15 from one of the magazines 16 which are swung about shafts 17 so that each is presented to alternate surfaces 9. Labels are transferred from the surfaces 9 and applied to the articles by an endless conveying device, Fig. 4, comprising a gripper cylinder 24 over which run belts 35. Gripper fingers 26 mounted on shafts 27 are opened and shut in timed sequence by rollers 28 on spring loaded levers 29 engaging a stationary cam 31. As a label 15 on a surface 9 contacts the conveying device, its end is gripped by a finger 26 entering a recess 34 and the label is drawn onto the cylinder 24 and is passed under guiding rollers 36 to contact an article 1 at which point the fingers 26 release the label. The belts 35 press the article 1 against an adjustable resilient guide 37 so that it rotates about its axis as it advances and the label application is completed.
