Abstract

1387101 Labelling machines; endless belt conveyer JOHANN WEISS MASCHINENFABRIK UND APPARATEBAU GmbH 10 Jan 1973 [25 Jan 1972] 1385/73 Headings B8F and B8A In a labelling machine, wherein a toothed endless belt 3, driven by at least one of toothed belt cylinders 1 and 29, transfers labels from a gumming roller 8 to bottles 10, the labels 23 are held on to the belt during transfer by suction applied through sets of vacuum bores 2 in the cylinder 1 and corresponding alignable sets of through-bores 4 in the belt. The belt throughbores open into the interior belt surface between the teeth and the cylinder bores open into a distribution trough 15 provided in the crest of the cylinder teeth. Vacuum is transmitted to the bores through a rotary valve 11 and 12, Fig. 2 (not shown). The belt is wider than the lables and rolls the bottles against a foamedback support 31 to apply the labels, said support being adjustable to accommodate different bottle sizes. The labels are transferred from a stack 5 to the gumming roller by a star wheel 6 and suction roller 7, and the bottles are fed through the machine by a conveyer 9 and a spacing screw 34. Recesses 25, Fig. 5 (not shown), are provided in the belt adjacent the bores and serve to accommodate any adhesive squeezed out on application of the labels to the bottles to avoid marring of the latter. A second lable is picked up from the gumming roller 8 and applied to each bottle by second sets of cooperable vacuum bores 4<SP>1</SP>, 15<SP>1</SP> in the belt and cylinder, those labels being drawn from a second label stack 5<SP>1</SP>.
