Class 125 (2) Bottles, to be fitted with caps having each a divided skirt the sections of which are curled to embrace a peripheral wire engaged by a lever which when depressed, tightens the skirt about the bottle neck, are advanced by a conveyer 13 under an inclined cap shoot 78 from which the bottle picks a cap as described in Specification 701,524, under a spring pressed plate 79 and under a pressure wheel 25 which presses the cap firmly on, the bottle at the same time making a micro-switch 82 which energizes a solenoid to cause an arm to descend to push down the cap lever to secure the cap. Wheel 25 is supported on a frame 26 pivoted at one end 27 to a frame 14, 15, 16, 17 vertically adjustable in the base frame 10, 11 12 of the machine by means of a screw arrangement 21, 22. The other end of frame 26 is pressed down by a spring 28. A motor 32 drives conveyer 13 and wheel 25 through chains 33, 40, 42. The bottle is guided on the conveyer 13 firstly by rails 74. then by two sets of belts 48, 49 driven through a chain 72 and bevel gears 68, 69 and then by rails 75. Rails 74, 75 can be adjusted in height on posts 76. Belts 48, 49 (Fig. 3) are mounted on rolls 50 ... 53 disposed as shown and mounted on a plate 55 which can be vertically adjusted bv rods 58 and brackets 59 on frame member 12. The inner run of the belts can be laterally adjusted by traversing an auxiliary plate 54 carrying rolls 50, 51 by means of screwed devices 57. On one side of the conveyer, the belts 48, 49 are held inwardly by a bank of rollers 60 and on the other side the rollers 60 are mounted in pairs in plates 62, these rollers being urged against the bottles by springs 65. Only one belt 48 or 49 may be used on each side of conveyer 13.
