807,134. Sawing. HORSTMANN & SHERWEN Ltd. May 31, 1957 [March 22, 1956], No. 8978/56. Class 145. A power-operated hand tool comprises a pair of leaf springs 22, 23 connected at one end to a casing 10 and at their free ends to a tool holder 21 which carries a saw 24 and is reciprocable in a slot 20 in the casing by means of crank or eccentric means 15, 16 engaging the free ends of the springs. As shown, a pin 15 on the crank arm 14 of a shaft 13 connected to a flexible drive shaft carries a ball bearing 16 fitted with a rubber roller 17 engaging the free ends of the springs and a washer 14a of nylon or similar material is fitted between the crank arm 14 and the end of a bearing sleeve 11. An extension may be secured to the rear of the casing so that a fan can be provided on the shaft 13 to draw in air and expel it through the slot 20.
