806,749. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT CO. Ltd. Oct. 30, 1956 [Nov. 28, 1955], No. 33999/55. Class 135. A fixed pressure is supplied by a pipe 1, Fig. 1, to an amplifier 2 comprising concentric bellows 3, 4 having an outlet 6 controlled by a valve 7, the output being directed into a pipe 8. The displacement of a Bourdon tube, for example, is applied to a needle valve 10 controlling the output of a nozzle 11 mounted on two spring- urged bellows 12, 13 connected by an apertured plate 15 so that the bellows in a chamber 14 are subjected externally to nozzle pressure; amplifier output pressure is supplied to the inside of bellows 13 by a pipe 17 and the chamber 14 is open to the amplifier chamber around bellows 3, 4 by a pipe 18. The supply pressure to the nozzle 11 is taken from the amplifier output by a pipe 19 incorporating a fixed restriction 20. The amplifier is loaded by a spring 21 to ensure the transmitter is selfstarting. The effective area of bellows 4 is five times that of bellows 3. In a modification, the amplifier output is connected via a restriction 24, Fig. 2, to the chamber around the amplifier bellows as well as a fixed nozzle 25 controlled by a flapper 26 mounted upon bellows 27, the interior of which is open directly to amplifier output pressure by a pipe 28. The force to be measured is applied to a plate 29 on bellows 27 so that movement of the bellows 27 through the flapper 26 varies the back pressure in the nozzle 25 and hence the pressure in the amplifier chamber until the output pressure balances the applied force.
