Abstract

870,257. Fluid - actuated pinch valves. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. Sept. 2, 1957 [Sept. 4, 1956], No. 27498/57. Class 135. A fluid-pressure actuated pinch valve comprises a valve body 10, Fig. 1, having an inlet 32 and an outlet 34 connected by a flexible tube 30. A yoke 28 fixed to the valve body bears on the top of the tube and constitutes a fixed anvil and a roller 25 carried by a bracket 22 secured to a diaphragm 14 loaded by a spring 15 constitutes a movable member. In one embodiment, powdered material in an ejector 39, Fig. 3, is carried to aplace of usage by carrier gas supplied through a line 37. A solenoid-actuated cock 36 connects the line 37 either to the tube 30 to permit the flow of powder-laden gas or through a by-pass line 35 to the space beneath the diaphragm 14 so that the diaphragm and roller are moved upwardly to close the valve. In another embodiment, to regulate the pressure of gas in a delivery line 52, Fig. 5, a restriction 50 is formed in the valve outlet and a by-pass line 54 connects the delivery line to the space beneath the diaphragm to regulate the amount of opening of the tube 30 in accordance with the pressure in the delivery line.
