[Also in Division Gl] A blood pressure measuring instrument comprises a chamber 2 divided by a diaphragm 4 into two compartments 29, 30 both of which communicate with an inflatable collar 1 so that the diaphragm 4 which is connected to a recording device moves in response to blood pressure variations transmitted to the collar as it is supplied with fluid through a pressure regulator 5 at a uniform rate. One of the compartments 29 has an aperture 9 to atmosphere, through which a rod 12 connecting the diaphragm to a spring 10 extends loosely. A recording pen 19 is connected to a pneumatic chamber 14 having a nozzle 13 spaced from the spring 10. As the gap changes in size in response to deflections of the diaphragm, the pressure in the chamber 14 changes in linear proportion so that the pen 19 records the variations in pressure in the collar. The pressure regulator comprises a valve 35 controlled by a pneumatic chamber 7 located in the fluid supply upstream of the valve and communicating with the upstream side of the valve through a throttle valve 6 and with a vessel 38. When the rate of supply of fluid to the collar changes the valve is opened or closed to maintain the supply uniform. A chart-feed mechanism 26 and the compressor 23 are driven from a common power supply.
