Abstract

805,434. Stop-motion for textile doubling machines. TWEEDALES & SMALLEY (1920) Ltd. March 7, 1957 [March 7, 1956], No. 7119/56. Class 120(2) In a textile-doubling machine, to allow auxiliary mechanism for rendering the stop-means inoperative to be moved into position when one or more of the stopmeans are in the operative position, the mechanism comprises a series of yieldable resilient members, such as leaf springs or spring-mounted fingers. In each section of the machine are provided a group of rollers such as 16 associated with a series of threads above a common driven roller 10. Each roller 16 is supported by a cradle comprising two plates 27 pivoted at 26. A thread guide 36 is carried by a pivoted lever 37, and while the tension is maintained in the thread, the parts are held in the position shown where a tail 32 on a plate 27 engages a notch 39 on the lever 37. When the thread snaps, the lever 37 which is weighted at 34 swings downwardly so that the notch moves away from the tail which then engages a slot 41 and the roller 16 is moved away from the roller 10 on to a bar 20. To render this arrangement inoperative, e.g. when it is desired to stop the machine, a bar 42 may be rotated by a handle so that a series of springs &c. 44 engage the corresponding levers 37 to stop them falling and to retain the parts in position. The springs &c. are such that if the bar is rotated when one or more levers have fallen, the corresponding spring or springs will flex without affecting the position of the lever(s), while the other springs will perform their normal retaining function. The bar is rotated by a handle mounted in a forked end of the bar: the handle is held behind a stop in the operative position by the pressure exerted on the springs by the weighted levers 37.
