Abstract

205,877. Rogers, F. H., (Eclipse Textile Devices, Inc.). July 25, 1922. Delivery, stopping; roving-guides.-In an arrangement in which the roving is clamped behind the rollers by a device operated by a member controlled by the tension of the thread, the stop device can be reset when the roving has been stopped without interfering with the thread-controlled member. In one arrangement, the stopdevice comprises a pivoted plate 14, Figs. 1 and 6 with a V-groove 16 to engage the roving, which plate is supported by and normally rests against a block 11 secured to the bar 13. The plate is operated by a pivoted trigger 17 the tail of which is struck, when the thread breaks, by an arm 26 on a pivoted thread-controlled lever 21. If the plate is reset, the lever 21 can be moved back past the trigger 17 without operating the plate 14. The lever 21 is in two parts pivoted at 24 to allow the outer half to be raised without operating the stop-device. The guide 10 on the lever takes the place of the usual guide eye. A series of locking-plates 31 may be moved to engage the levers 21 to prevent their operation. These plates may be mounted on a bar 32 connected to the belt-shifting device. The roving-guide 9 may take the form of a slotted bracket carried by the bar 28 or of a slot in the bar itself. The clamping-device may comprise two parallel plates 38, 40, Fig. 11, supported from the bar 13, and two blocks 44, carrying plates 45 to grip the roving, pivoted between them. The blocks are pivoted on pins 42 and are operated by pivoted triggers 50 carrying extensions 48 adapted to be engaged and moved by arms 27 on the thread-controlled levers. A pin 47 rests on the plate 40 to maintain the block in its normal position. A pin 47a limits the relative movement of the block 44 and trigger 50. If the arm 27 is moved back, after the plate 44 is reset, the lost motion between the trigger 50 and block 44 prevents disturbance of the block. A pivoted board with a flanged edge may be arranged at the front of the frame under the thread controlled levers, to collect dust, lint, &c. and is adapted when raised, to support a series of levers in their raised position. The stopdevice may be applied to a twisting-machine with a single pair of delivery rollers.
