A textile roller weighting apparatus of the type in which a saddle rests on the necks at the ends of the roller and a tension rod is connected to said saddle and to spring or like loading means, is provided with means for applying upward pressure to the tension rod by a member adapted to bear against the lower extremity of the tension rod, the contacting surfaces of the rod and the member being so shaped that when the tension rod has been relieved of the weighting pressure by the upward movement of the said member the resultant force between the surfaces will cause the tension rod and the saddle to swing laterally to a position clear of the rollers. As shown the invention is applied to a combing machine having front and back rollers 10, 11 and 12, 13, A saddle 18 rests on the necks of rollers 10 and 12 and has pivotally connected to it at 19 a tension rod 20. The other end of rod 20 is connected to a bell crank lever 22, 23 and is loaded by means of the rod 25 and spring 27. The weight-relieving means consists of a lever 30 freely pivoted on shaft 24 and having an arm 31 which extends beneath the lower extremity of the rod 20. The surface 201 of the rod 20 against which the arm 31 abuts when lever 30 is depressed is bevelled or inclined at an angle (Fig. 3) such that the tension rod and saddle assembly is automatically caused to topple laterally away from the rollers so as to leave the latter free for removal. The lever 30 may be retained in its depressed position by engagement with a notch 32 in a slotted guide plate 33.
