A textile drafting apparatus of the type wherein the upper drafting elements are carried by an arm pivoted to a fixed part of the apparatus and having a clip or catch for securing the pivotal arm in the operative position, comprises a hook depending from the said arm and adapted to engage a detent, a lever device on the arm for bringing said hook into engagement with the said detent or for releasing it therefrom, and spring influenced or other means adapted, when the hook is released, to urge the hook to a position clear of the detent so that the arm can be raised without hindrance. In the arrangement shown the means for locking the arm 22 in its operative position consists of a hook 31 which depends from the arm 22 between the roller brackets 20 and 21 to engage a detent 32 provided on the rear side of the apron guide-bar 14. The hook 31 is pivotally connected at 33 to a disc-like member 34 which is provided with a finger-piece 35 and is arranged to rotate about a transverse axis in an arcuate recess 36 formed in the upper surface of the arm 22. Attached to the shank of the hook 31 is a cup 37 housing a spring 38 which is compressed, when the hook 31 is in the engaged position shown, between the cup 37 and an abutment 39 on the underside of the arm 22. When the hook 31 is disengaged by anticlockwise rotation of the member 34 by the finger-piece 35 the hook is lowered sufficiently to enable it to disengage the detent 32 and a lug 34<SP>1</SP> on the member 34 then abuts against the side of the hook thereby moving the hook positively in a rearward direction so that it is clear of the detent thus permitting the arm 22 to be raised (see Fig. 2). In other embodiments a toggle lever mechanism is used and spring means are provided for urging the hook 31 rearwardly out of the operative position.
