Class 120(2) A flyer for textile spinning machines of the kind wherein the lower ends of the flyer legs are fixed in a ball race is characterized in that the flyer is pivotably fixed to the ball race so as to be rockable about an axis which is at right angles to the axis of rotation of the flyer. In the embodiment shown the flyer 1 is of inverted U form and the free ends of the two legs are hinged by bolts 4 to the ball race 3. Spring loaded detents 5 are provided to secure the flyer in its working position. The flyer may be driven either by the tension of the thread or by a friction driving disc 9 acting on the ball race 3. When a bobbin being wound is full the flyer is hinged about the bolts 4 to a position at right angles to that shown such that the full bobbin can be readily replaced by an empty one. Other embodiments show a type of flyer having hollow legs and also one in the form of a single helix It is also stated that the flyer may be driven by a gear wheel drive.
