Abstract

804,449. Valves. COLLINS, J. E. Aug. 29, 1956 [May 22, 1956], No. 26413/56. Class 135. A solenoid-actuated valve controlling the flow of pressure fluid, e.g. to and from a working cylinder, comprises a valve body 10 having a bore 16 formed with recesses 17, 18, 19 communicating respectively with supply, exhaust and cylinder ports and a valve member 25 having an axial bore interconnecting its two ends to pressure balance the member and a transverse port 26 which on movement of the member interconnects the cylinder port with either the supply or exhaust ports. The valve is connected to an armature 30 also having an axial bore so that this also is pressure balanced, the solenoid coil 15 being isolated from the pressure fluid by a sleeve 32, sealing plug 35, end plate 33 and sealing ring 45. The connection between the valve member and the armature comprises a flange 52 on the valve member which is pushed into a recess 50 in the armature and then slid sideways to engage under a lip on the armature. Energization of the coil moves the valve member to the left and a spring 40 moves it to the right.
