Abstract

889,987. Electromagnets. CLIMAX ROCK DRILL & ENGINEERING Ltd. Sept. 15, 1958 [Sept. 18, 1957], No. 29404/57. Class 35. [Also in Group XXIX] In a solenoid valve in which a spring-loaded armature plunger 14 lies in a solenoid bore and in which one end of a plunger closes a port in a solenoid enclosure when the solenoid is unenergized and the other end of the plunger closes a second port in the enclosure when the solenoid is energized, the solenoid is embedded in a block of thermo-setting plastic and the wall of the solenoid bore is formed by the plastic of the block. The valve may be a pilot valve bolted on a cylinder containing a piston or a main valve 52 so that pressure fluid at 36 passes through an annular cooling space 42, through a seat 22 opened by a valve spring 16 when the solenoid is unenergized, and through plunger slots 32 into a cylinder passage 34. On energizing the solenoid, the valve seat 22 is closed and seat 20 open, whereby passage 34 is exhausted through seat 20 and passage 38. The functions of openings 36, 38 may be interchanged whereby supply to passage 34 occurs on energization of the solenoid. The valve closure members are formed by the ends of a core of rubber 18 in the plunger 14.
