Abstract
889,149. Valves. GARDNER, L. H. June 30, 1959 [Nov. 21, 1958], No. 22452/59. Class 135. A valve for controlling a single-acting pneumatic motor is actuated by a solenoid or by manual or mechanical means and comprises a valve member with a stem 18 slidable in a guide 52 and closure portions at each end of a reduced part 96 coacting alternately with O-rings 84, 86 to control communication of a motor port 16 or 74 with an inlet port 12 and an exhaust port 14. An annular seat member 48 carrying an 0-ring 50 that seals with a bore 40 in the valve body is held in place by the guide 52 which is engaged by a sleeve 54 in which the armature of the solenoid reciprocates. The armature is spring-urged to the right and positions the valve as shown when the solenoid is energized. In a modification, the connections to the ports 12, 14 are reversed and an 0-ring to prevent passage of compressedair outwardly along the stem 18 is provided between ports 82 and the outer part of the guide 52 which is formed separately from the part engaging the seat member 48 and containing the ports 82.
