Abstract

917,174. Valves. GARDNER, L. H. Feb. 23, 1960 [May 28, 1959], No. 6349/60. Class 135. A valve structure comprises a valve body 10 having inlet and outlet ports 12, 14 and a cavity 16 provided with a socket 22. The inlet port 12 is connected with a bottom of the socket 22 by passages 28, 26 and the outlet port 14 is connected with the bottom of the cavity by a passage 24. A disc-shaped member 30, provided with a central hub portion, is secured in the cavity by a member 18 which also provides a support for a reciprocating plunger 36. The disc-shaped member 30 is provided with ports communicating with passages 26, 24 and the hub portion forms an annular seat 34 for the movable valve member 14 located in the plunger 36. The plunger is biased by a spring 42 to the valve closed position. In the embodiment described the valve is actuated electrically by a solenoid formed by a coil 46 and a core 48 located in a recess of the plunger 36. Such a valve allows easy replacement of the disc-shaped member 30 by one having a different sized central orifice.
