Abstract

689,295. Valves. GARDNER, L. H. Oct. 29, 1951, No. 25219/51. Class 135. A solenoid-operated valve comprises a body 10 with an inlet port 11 and a work port 12 connecting, e.g., with a ram. Both ports communicate with a bore 13 containing a seat 14 for a closure member 17, the upper end 16 of which forms the armature of a solenoid 21. The end of bore 13 remote from the solenoid is closed by a plug 36 having exhaust passages 38 which connect with port 12 when member 17 is seated and the solenoid is de-energised. A tubular extension 33 of member 17 carries a seat 39 for a ball valve 40 held from the seat, when the member 17 is seated, by a stem 37 on the plug 36. Thus when the solenoid is energised, the work port is disconnected from the exhaust passages and connected to the inlet port. A knob 32 permits of manual operation of the valve, and passages 41, 42 in the member 17 prevent any dashpot action due to fluid leaking past the member.
