Abstract
803,210. Fluid heaters. FOSTER WHEELER, Ltd. Oct. 9, 1956 [Oct. 25, 1955], No. 30T51/56. Class 64(1) In a fluid heater a set of burners 14 is arranged so that each one fires directly into one of a row of tubes 17 arranged around the circumference of a shell 12 within which a path is provided for the fluid. After passing through the tubes 17, the hot gases return through tubes 23 before finally passing through tubes 25 to a flue 30. The tubes 25 are mounted in an inner compartment 34 formed by a cylinder 32 and are fitted with baffles 50 which direct the air supply for the burners 14 over the tubes. This air is supplied to the compartment by a centrifugal blower (not shown) connected to a passage 46. The fluid to be heated, air, water or liquid sodium, enters the space 33 between the cylinders 12 and 32 through an inlet 35 and is distributed by a perforated cylindrical baffle 36. It then flows in countercurrent to the flue gases around a system of baffles 37, 38, 39, 42 and 43 before reaching an outlet 45,
