Abstract

875,894. Hot-water boilers; heating by circulation of liquid. DANKS & CO. (OLDBURY) Ltd., EDWIN. Oct. 23, 1959 [Oct. 30, 1958], No. 34836/58. Classes 64(1) and 64(2) Water passes from an inlet 62 of a boiler of welded construction into a distributing ring-channel 64 at one end of a horizontal cylindrical shell 2 and passes from slots in the vertical sides of the channel into the shell interior to flow over flue tubes 6 arranged in cylindrical banks and pass along over cylindrical baffles 30, 34, first towards one end and then towards the other end of the boiler before flowing over a flue tube 4 to an outlet 70. Air and fuel are passed into the tube 4 which is formed by welding together flanged sections and which leads to a chamber 56 in which combustion is completed. Firebricks 54 line the end of the chamber 56 and the combustion gases pass through a first inner pass of flue tubes 6 to a chamber 46 and then back through a second, outer pass of flue tubes 6, outside the baffle 30, to a conical outlet chamber 59 with a gas outlet 60 to a chimney. Plates 38, 40, with narrow flanges 42, 44 welded to them extend respectively inwardly from the shell 2 and outwardly from the inner baffle cylinder 34 to support between them the outer baffle cylinder 30. The boiler is used in a heating system including a pump and a heat utilizer and the water is maintained under pressure, to prevent boiling within the boiler, by a cylinder of nitrogen connected to the system or by a static head of liquid. The Provisional Specification describes also a boiler with more than one water outlet which may have collecting manifolds or may extend through that tube plate of the flue tubes which is at the water outlet end of the boiler.
