Abstract

<PICT:0802685/IV (c)/1> Apparatus for scouring textile material comprises a driven drum 4 journalled and submerged in a tank 3 containing a solution of caustic soda and a solvent such as castor oil soap, and rollers 8 around which a continuous length of material 7 is passed, the drum 4 being heated internally, e.g. by electricity, gas, or steam passed through the trunnions 5, to cause the liquor in the tank 3 to boil. If desired, the material 7 may be passed through two or more similar baths, and the apparatus may also be used for dyeing instead of scouring. The tension in the material may be adjusted by means of spring-urged rollers 9, 10 (see Group XVI).
