Abstract

25,445. Pickles, T., and Pickles, J. Nov. 12. Dyeing; washing. - A process for dyeing and mercerizing fabrics comprises the following sequence of operations, namely: scouring or cleansing; mercerizing which may be preceded by or combined with dyeing ; and finally, stentering. In an apparatus for carrying out the process, the fabric A, which may first be singed at a. passes through a series of vessels b containing heated scouring or cleansing solution, and intermediate squeezing-rollers c. The last tank b may contain a sulphur colour which dyes under the action of sodium sulphide used in the scouring-material. The cloth A then passes through suitable nip rollers d, which are adjustable for regulation of the condition of the moist fabric, and of which there are, preferably, more than one pair - and then directly, evenly moistened as it is, into a mercerizing-tank e. The caustic mercerizing-bath may contain the dye in lieu of, or in addition to the aforesaid dye. On leaving the padding mangle g in the mercerizing-tank e, the fabric A passes immediately to a stentering-frame h, and thence to suitable neutralizing, washing, and drying apparatus i, k, l. Nip rollers n may be provided, preferably in two pairs, in front of the first neutralizing-vessel.
