Abstract
<FORM:0436463/IV/1> An anti-crease treatment for fabrics comprises treating the fabric in open width whilst substantially tensionless with an aqueous liquor above 90 DEG C. for less than 10 minutes, preferably 2--5 mins. at 97--100 DEG C. The aqueous liquor is water or dilute soap or like solution. The treatment, which is preferably effected continuously by passing the fabric through the liquor, may also be used to develop cr<\>zepe effects in fabrics containing cr<\>zepe threads. A suitable apparatus comprises feed rollers 4, a paddle winch 7 which submerges the fabric, and nip rollers 5, the vat is provided with heating pipes 2. The submerging paddle may be dispensed with by disposing the feed rollers at or below the surface of the liquor. In an example, a cellulose acetate fabric having cr<\>zepe weft threads is passed through a bath at 99 DEG C. containing 5 gms. of soap per litre so that the fabric is immersed for 3 mins. The liquor may contain any suitable wetting agent, e.g. sulphonated soaps, saponin, alkyl aralkyl or hydro-aryl substituted aromatic sulphonic acids. Cr<\>zepe fabrics produced according to the invention may be directly dyed in rope or other folded form since the treatment provides adequate wetting out and eliminates the tendency of the fabric to crease on a winch machine. Specifications 437,019, [Group IX], 437,943; 448,588, 438,589, 438,590, 438,591, and 438,729, [all in Group IX], are referred to.
