In a particle accelerator of the kind in which increasing potentials are applied to annular electrodes 5<SP>1</SP>, 5<SP>2</SP> ... distributed along the tube, one or more of the electrodes is provided with an annular permanent magnet to reduce bombardment of the electrode by the particles and to deflect secondary electrons away from the centre of the tube. The inner edge of the electrode 5, Fig. 2, is bent around the magnet 8.
