Abstract
801,051. Electromagnets. UGON, P. E. Jan. 25, 1955 [Jan. 25, 1954], No. 2199/55. Class 35. [Also in Group XXXVII] A magnetic device, e.g. a relay, comprises, Fig. 1, a centrally-pivoted armature 4 which, when the coil 3 is energized, tilts to bridge the polepiece formed by the end of magnet limb 1 and a polepiece 5 connected to the surrounding magnet limbs 2. The arrangement is such that the magnetic moments acting on the ends of the armature are substantially equal. In another construction. Fig. 11, the armature 4 is V-shaped and one polepiece is formed directly by a limb 2, a contact 10 on the armature co-operating with a fixed contact 12. The armature pivot 7 may comprise a torsion strip acting as a restoring spring. In a sealed relay, Fig. 13, the armature 4 is biased by a spiral spring 18 and controls contacts 10, 12. In a polarized relay (Fig. 14, not shown) the polepiece 5 of Fig. 1 consists of a permanent magnet. In Fig. 16 the permanent magnet comprises a ferrite disc 18 interposed between the core 1 and limbs 2, while according to Fig. 17 a ferrite member 21 surrounds the coil 3.
