Abstract
607,914. Electromagnets. BRITISH TABULATING CO., Ltd., and LAST, J. Feb. 13, 1946, No. 4494. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electromagnet is provided with a U-shaped core and an armature 4 which is pivoted on a knife edge E formed on the inner edge of one of the limbs of the core. The armature is formed with two flat surfaces, one of which in the normal position of the armature is maintained in contact with the limb 2 of the magnet by a spring 8 fixed to the armature at a point 7. The other surface of the armature is at a slight angle to the first to provide an air-gap 6 above the core limb 1. The core is of rectangular section and the limb 1 is provided with a winding on a bobbin comprising flanges 16, 17 having slots to pass over the core and connected by two insulating bars 18, 19. The ends of the winding are soldered to contact pieces 20, 21 mounted on an insulating block 31 and engaging spring contacts 23, 24 projecting from an insulating clip 22. In a modification, both limbs of the core are provided with a winding. Several of the devices may be mounted sideby-side on rods passing through holes 33, 34.
