A rockable armature relay has additional co-operating arms 2, 3, 7 on its armature 1 and yoke 5 on which the armature 1 pivots to provide a variable air gap between them in parallel with the air gap at the pivots. The armature 1 rocks on the corners of yoke limbs 5, 6 and, on energization of a coil 13, is attracted to a core 4 and the ends 8, 9 of arms 2, 3 are attracted to shoulders 10, 11 of arm 7. The arms 2, 3 may be shaped so that the gaps between ends 8, 9 and shoulders 10, 11 increase during the final armature movement to provide a " countertorque " (Fig. 3, not shown). A spring 18 has arms 16, 17 engaging the armature to urge it against bearing edges 19 of the yoke and an additional adjustable arm 21 which is bent behind the end 8 of the arm 2 to act as a back stop.
