Classes 7(2) and 7(3) In an air-cooled fuel injector 21 having locating flanges 21b, 35 formed respectively on the main body part 21a and on a threaded nut 21e which secures the nozzle tip to the body part, which flanges cooperate with corresponding apertures 32, 22 in the cylinder head, the nut part 21e is provided below the flange 35 with a frusto-conical extension 36 closely surrounding the nozzle tip. The injector is secured by a clamping plate 33 and the aperture 32 is formed in a detachable plate 13 which rests on cooling fins 25, 26, Fig. 2, formed on the cylinder head 12, a central fin 24 separating the air flow over the exhaust pipe 15 from that over the inlet pipe 14 and deflecting it so that the air heated by the exhaust pipe passes to one side of the injector whilst the cool air flowing over the inlet pipe flows past the injector to cool it. The injector cooling fins are formed on the nut 21e. In a modification, the nut 21e is a composite member comprising an inner threaded sleeve of high tensile metal and an outer sleeve, of good heat conductivity material, carrying the fins 34, flange 35 and frusto-conical part 36. In a further modification, the part carrying the flange 35 and frustoconical portion 36 is of good heat conductivity material and is separate from the threaded nut 21e which is of steel.
