Abstract

762,222. Cooling fuel injectors. RICARDO & CO., ENGINEERS (1927), Ltd. May 23, 1955 [April 14, 1954], No. 10945/54. Class 7 (3). A fuel injection nozzle 15 in an air cooled engine is provided with a nozzle tip 16 which has an annular seat portion 19 engaging a corresponding seat 11 formed around the injection aperture 10 in the cylinder head, the sides of the nozzle tip 16 being exposed to a space through which cooling air flows. The cylinder head is provided with cooling fins 12 integral with an upper stiffening web 13 which locates the upper part of the nozzle 15, cooling air being adapted to flow over the fins 12 and through the space surrounding the nozzle. A washer 20, which may be of metal, copper-asbestos, or non- metallic insulating material is provided between the nozzle tip 16 and its seat 11.
