800,008. Storing liquified gases. CONSTOCK LIQUID METHANE CORPORATION. May 7, 1957, No. 14540/57. Class 8(2). [Also in Group XXXIII] Liquefied hydrocarbon gas e.g. methane is stored at substantially atmospheric pressure in an insulated tank 5 surrounded by a tank 2 charged with sufficient water to float the inner tank which is restrained from radial and angular displacement by vertical guides 7 ; the gas space of the tank 5 having an outlet 24 connected by a bellows 26 to an outlet 25 of the tank 2. The latter forms part of a ships structure (see Group XXXIII) and is provided with water sprays 14 directed against the top of the liquefied gas tank 5 and fed by a motor-driven pump 8, Fig. 1 (not shown). The water level is controlled by means 23 which in turn controls a pump for withdrawing water through a drain 16 which is automatically closed by a spigot 21 at a predetermined water level. The insulation 6 comprises balsa wood.
