Abstract

866,864. Storing liquefied gases. CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd. June 15, 1959 [June 24, 1958], No. 20484/59. Class 8(2). A storage tank for low-boiling point liquefied gases comprises an insulated layer 12, Fig. 2, a main supply line 24 coupled to a filling tube 22 extending into the tank, a branch line 36, 34, Figs. 1 and 2, coupled to a plurality of spray means 28 in the tank, a vapour outlet 42 and a second vapour outlet 60 that opens when the vapour pressure in the tank exceeds a predetermined positive pressure. The vapour outlet 42 is coupled to a vapour header 48 via a calibrated orifice 52 actuating a flow transmitter 54 and a recorder 56. The vapour outlet 60 branches into two lines 64, 66 each having a pressure valve 70 set to open at pressures above and below atmospheric, the twin arrangement being a safety measure. Shut-off valves 38, 40, 58 are included where shown, and 20 is a manhole cover. The spray means 28 are used to spray the walls and the interior volume of the tank with the liquefied gas until the liquid wets the walls of the tank without immediate vaporization, the valve 40 to the filling pipe 22 being then opened for rapid filling of the tank.
