Abstract
917,179. Storing and dispensing liquefied gas. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Aug. 23, 1961 [Aug. 23, 1960], No. 29105/60. Addition to 883,390. Class 8(2). In a liquefied gas e.g., oxygen storing and dispensing apparatus as claimed in the parent Specification and comprising a thermally insulated container 11 having a delivery pipe 14 extending from near the container bottom and through the top thereof and up which liquid oxygen is forced by pressure in the gas space 29 generated by a pressure build-up circuit comprising a liquid feed line 18 branching from the delivery pipe 14, a vaporizing coil 25 located below the container bottom, a vapour feed line 26 with a non-return valve 28 and an automatic valve 27 therein which opens when the pressure in space 29 falls below a predetermined value and wherein the main flow of liquid oxygen is through a jacket 19 surrounding the liquid feed line 18 to one end of which liquid oxygen is supplied through pipe 14 through a duct 20 and valve 21 providing a pressure drop and from the other end of said jacket 19 liquid oxygen is supplied to a service connection e.g., a revaporizing coil 22, charging of the container 11 is effected through a filling line 44 which is connected to the vapour space 29 through a line 46 and an automatic valve 47 which opens when the pressure in said space 29 rises above a predetermined value; said line 44 also being connected to the liquid space 10 of the container 11 through a storage vessel 40 and lines 43, 14. In operation and assuming the pressure in space 29 to be such that valve 47 is open, then gas flow proceeds from said space through line 46, the vessel 40, lines 43, 20, valve 21, jacket 19, line 15, vaporizer 22 and outlet valve 23 to the consumer. When pressure in space 29 is such that valve 47 closes liquid oxygen is forced up pipe 14 to line 20, valve 21, jacket 19, line 15, vaporizer 22 and valve 23 whereupon valve 27 opens and allows oxygen vapour from the pressure build-up coil 25, which is connected to the liquid feed line 18, to gain access to the space 29. Filling during the time that valve 47 is closed takes place through line 44, space 42, line 43, and down line 14. As filling proceeds valve 47 opens and allows passage therethrough of liquid oxygen to the container 11 causing cooling and pressure fall until the valve 47 recloses. During a non-withdrawal period liquid oxygen in the vessel 40 evaporates and the vapour passes up line 43 and down line 14 which includes a coil 41 serving to condense said vapour. In a modification the liquid storage vessel 40, Fig. 2 (not shown), is located in the liquid feed line 18 between the end of jacket 19 and the pressure build-up coil 25. In a further modification the jacket 19, Fig. 3 (not shown) serves as the storage vessel.
