Abstract
1363737 Charging liquefied gas containers CRYOGENIC ENG CO 25 Oct 1971 [23 Oct 1970] 49400/71 Heading F4P [Also in Division F1] A method of filling a liquid oxygen container 15 which is initially under a gas pressure of between 50 and 100 p.s.i. comprises (a) transferring liquid gas by gravity flow from a low pressure supply vessel 11 through an open valve 17 to a saddle tank 13 also at low pressure during which time the gas spaces of tanks 11, 13 are connected through an open valve 18, (b) with valves 17, 18 closed, pressures in tank 13 and container 15 are equalized through an open valve 21 to a value of about 30 p.s.i., and (c) with valve 21 closed and a valve 19 open the gas space of container 15 is connected to the low pressure tank 11 thus allowing pressurized liquid oxygen in tank 13 to flow through a one-way valve 67 into container 15. When a full container 15 has been disconnected at 63, 65 from tanks 11, 13 the accumulated pressure in tanks 11, 12 is relieved either by venting or condensation using liquid nitrogen before a further empty container 15 is connected. The supply tank 11 is charged through a filter 51 and a valve 23 and the circuit includes conventional relief valves 33, 35, a rupture disc 37 and pressure gauges P1, P2, P3.
