Abstract

1390283 Discharging liquids by gaseous pressure LINDE AG 20 Dec 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 58837/72 Heading F1R A series of tanks 1, 2, 3, 4 of liquified gas is discharged by passing compressed gas into the first tank until the liquid is discharged, withdrawing and compressing the gas in the first tank and feeding it to the second tank to discharge the liquid therefrom. The process is repeated until only the last tank is pressurized. The volumes of the tanks are selected so that the first charge of gas in the first tank is sufficient to empty all the tanks. Rate of flow is maintained constant by selecting outlet bores. A gas flow sensing device including a depending pipe (e.g. 27) for each tank closes the valves 13, 14 and equivalent valves when the liquid level falls to level a. The invention is applied to the discharge of liquified methane from a tanker vessel.
