Abstract

799,136. Packaging-machines. MINNESOTA MINING & MANUFACTURING CO. July 18, 1956 [July 18, 1955], No. 22316/56. Class 94(1). [Also in Group XV] A device for applying a sealing or marking tape around an article, bundle or bag neck comprises a support for a roll 5 of adhesive tape and a presser member 10 having a throat 12a which, when pressed down by the article, causes faces 18, 18a to unite the tape above and round it. The member 10 is of resilient material and pivoted at 11, 11a. The throat is biassed upwardly by a spring-loaded member 14. The tape passes between rolls 16, 17 to lie across an entry channel 15 into which the article is thrust carrying the tape with it. The article is withdrawn and the tape is severed on a knife 19, the part extending from the roll thus being positioned for the next operation. A resilient tongue 23 assists in pressing the tape portions together above the article being sealed.
