Abstract

862,950. Applying adhesive tape. CELLOPHANE INVESTMENT CO. Ltd. Nov. 3, 1959 [Nov. 3, 1958], No. 37332/59. Class 73. A device for applying lengths of adhesive tape to flexible articles has means for feeding the tape 3 on to a rotatable suction drum 22 and for bringing it, entrained on the drum, into contact ,with the article 'which is passed on to a collecting chute by gripping elements. The tape 3 is fed from a reel 1 by driven rollers 4 and 5 and receives on its adhesive side a "tear-off" strip 17 which is fed by rollers 12 and 13 from a reel 10. The circumference'of the drum 22 is equal to twice the required length of tape, which is fed on to it at zero tension and is held by suction over the sector 23 only. The article is first positioned on a table 24 by side guides 25 and stops 26. Pedal operation of a rod 30 withdraws the stops 26 and lowers the drum 22 to grip the -tape and the article between it and a driven roller 31. When the roller 31 has rotated the drum 22 through 180 degrees it stops, but the taped article continues on through the nip of a pair of driven rollers 32, 33 on to a shoot 41. During the application of the tape a fresh length has been fed on to the uncontacted side of the drum ready for the next application and is severed by a pivoted knife 37 which notches its ends to expose a tongue of the "tear-off" strip.
