Abstract

664,519. Tape-applying machines. COW & GATE, Ltd., and CHARLES, G. K. Feb. 21, 1950 [March 4, 1949], No. 6006/49. Class 73. A machine for applying adhesive tape tc seal packets &c. is arranged to sever the length of tape subsequent to its application. A lever 16 fulcrumed at 17 is urged by a spring 20 to extend through a slot 12 in a platform 11 and is provided at its upper end with a resilient applying roll 23. Adhesive strip 26 supplied from a roll 28 passes over a roller 39 to a pivoted guide 25 against which it is held by a spring detent 40. In use a package 52 is pushed in the direction of the arrow 53 to engage the projecting strip 26 the packet then depressing the lever 16 while the roller 23 presses the strip against two sides of the packet until the strip 26 is drawn taut over a serrated fixed blade 42 which severs it, the application being completed by a roller 45 mounted on a spring controlled lever 47. As the lever 16 rises when the packet is removed the spring detent holds the strip 26 against the guide 25 so that a supply is withdrawn from the roll 28 and projects through the slot 12 ready for the next application. If it is desired to apply a length of tape right round the article after the initial contact with the strip the package is rotated by hand as shown by the arrow 54, Fig. 7, and subsequently advanced along the platform 11 to sever the strip.
